Wild Chix is empowering Kiwi women to take the helm with hands-on boating, fishing and hunting workshops across NZ

Wild Chix - Empowering Kiwi Women on the Water

July 2025

Wild Chix is transforming how New Zealand women engage with boating, fishing, and hunting. Founded by Isabell Zitzelsberger and Shanel Honoré, this organisation creates safe, supportive environments where women can learn outdoor skills without judgment.

What Wild Chix offers

Many Kiwi women join boating and fishing adventures but often find themselves as passengers rather than taking control. Wild Chix changes that through practical, hands-on workshops covering boat handling, safety, navigation, weather, and communication.

Using a "women teaching women" approach, participants can ask questions they've never felt comfortable asking and build genuine confidence on the water. The goal is empowering women to take charge of their own outdoor adventures.

Building confidence and community

Wild Chix addresses a real gap in New Zealand's outdoor culture. The workshops help women move from being passengers to confidently taking the helm, whether that's planning a fishing trip with friends or teaching their own children to love the water.

The organisation has created a growing community of skilled, confident women who support each other's outdoor adventures and aren't afraid to tackle new challenges.
